Introducing Logitech’s latest speakers, THX-certified Z-5500, these have been eagerly awaited by many as there a mid-range set of speakers, they’re not quite full AV receiver speakers but their a lot bigger and better than standard computer speakers. It’s worth noting these are currently the only PC speakers on the market that accepts optical & coaxial inputs which is pretty sweet in my opinion as it means you can hook them up to your gaming system and DVD player.
The Z-5500 come with a generous 3 analogue mini jack inputs that can be used for a number of things, connecting directly your desktops sound card which will enable surround, connect them to a Blu-ray player with a simple phono output adaptor and they simply be used as three standard stereo inputs.
First look at the control unit and you immediately notice how sleek and stylish is look with its oversized volume wheel situated just below the LED backlit screen, input cables all go into this control unit, neatly on the back out view. Although there are plenty of buttons on the unit itself there not essential as this speaker come with a remote control as standard.
The subwoofer is really quite impressive to say the least and produces some amazing bass, the surround speakers are just the same, complementing the overall sound, despite their size they still pack a hefty punch.
I think Logitech has really excelled themselves with these speakers, there excellent value for money for the sound quality your getting, sure there not going to be as good as full AV receivers but that’s not what their aimed at; these speakers are prefect for someone that wants better sound than their current PC speakers are giving them, plus these come with the added flexibility to be able to wire them into a DVD player.
